Boost Immunity with Exercise

I came across an interesting study correlating upper respiratory tract infections severity with physically inactivity.

For 12 weeks, the study followed a group of 1002 adults (18-85 years, 60% female, 40% male) during the fall and winter months. They monitored upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) symptoms and severity while gathering the participants weekly frequency of physical activity.

Amazing news!

43% of participants who reported 5 days of physical activity per week had significantly reduced days of URTI compared to largely sedentary participants who exercised less than 1 day per week. And when the higher physical active group did get an URTI the severity of symptoms were 32-41% less.

Exercise makes us stronger, inside and out. We feel better and more confident traversing through the chaos of this busy season. Our muscles become stronger, heart and lungs work better, and even our cells become more efficient.

Now, of course, we all get knocked down by the flu at some point or another, regardless of exercise levels. When sick, please honour your body and take time to rest and recover.
