I am so glad you are here!

Hello! I am Amy, and I am the owner of Pilates Life Studio, located in Langley BC Canada.

I called the studio Pilates Life because adopting the method can be so much more than just performing the exercises. The creator of the Pilates method -Joseph Pilates- wanted his clients to embrace an all-encompassing health regime focusing on:

  • correct breathing

  • moving the body with control, concentration, and precision

  • gaining strength

  • maintaining a healthy weight

  • nutritious eating in proper portions

  • sufficient sleep

Transforming the way fitness is delivered

I live and breathe Pilates and have training in classical and contemporary methods. My Pilates methodology respects the original repertoire created by Joseph Pilates, while using my kinesiology background to apply modern scientific understanding of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and neuroscience to human movement and function.

According to the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) kinesiology employs evidence based scientific research and assessment to assist in the prevention and rehabilitation of injury, lifestyle diseases and other physiological conditions, along with the enhancement of human performance, in environments such as work and sport.

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of purposeful movement to gain strength and vitality, while helping reduce aches and pains caused by inactivity.

Humber College Fitness Leadership Diploma 1999

In the 90s, I originally went to college for Journalism and worked in the field for a bit before deciding it wasn't a good fit. In 1999 I graduated from Humber College for Fitness Leadership and was ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified as a personal trainer. I worked at the prestigious The Fitness Institute (now called Toronto Athletic Club) in downtown Toronto and created their Triathlon program with a fellow co-worker. I specialized in endurance sports, coaching age group runners and triathletes, along with business professionals wanting to lose some weight and get stronger.

In 2011, I studied as a Vinyasa Yoga Instructor with Toronto's The Yoga Sanctuary's 250 hour yoga teacher training program. I also studied Ashtanga yoga as a personal practice with some of the most amazing teachers: David Robson (Toronto) and Fiona Stang (Vancouver). I moved to Vancouver in 2012 and worked as a trainer and yoga instructor in various gyms and studios in the Vancouver area.

Moving to Langley, BC, in 2018 I worked as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor for the Township of Langley rec centres, teaching small group training, barre, yoga, group cycling, Pilates mat and body sculpt before the COVID pandemic. I have also taught at Brand Fitness, Inspire Fitness, Smiling Hearts, Core Conditioning, and Evolution Pilates and Yoga studio.

I became enamoured with Pilates in 2019 when I enrolled in Emmie Li's Pilates Essence's BCRPA Classical Pilates mat instructor training. I.Like.Literally.Fell.In.LOVE

The journey led me to Balanced Body's 500hr contemporary teacher training in mat, reformer, and apparatus, and then to Mindful Movement Pilates studio's 500hr comprehensive teacher training which offered more of a blend of classical/contemporary methods. In 2022 I obtained a Clinical Pilates diploma, where I apply evidence-based research and techniques to help heal the body using the Pilates method. Additionally, I have certifications in prenatal and postnatal Pilates with BASI.

Recently I completed my 500hr Classical Bridge certification with The Pilates Center in Boulder Colorado, considered the “Harvard” of Pilates Teacher Training schools for their thoroughness and expertise. I am also currently obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree at CBU, graduating in 2025. And I am super pumped to be learning from Karen Frishmann all thing classical Pilates, such an honour to be learning from the best!
